In February 2019, we announced an update regarding commercial useof the Android Things platform for device makers. Following in line with thoseupdates, we are turning down the Android Things Console for non-commercial use.Beginning January 5, 2021 the console will no longer allow creation of newprojects using NXP i.MX7D and Raspberry Pi 3B.

Developers can continue to use the Android Things console to build images andserve OTA updates for their existing projects until January 5, 2022.At this point, the console will be turned down completely and all project datawill be permanently deleted — including build configurations and factory images.

    Follow the console instructions to download your factoryimages and use the hardware guides for your device toflash them. Access to these images will be unavailable afterJanuary 5, 2022.

    Monthly security patchesfor developer SoMs ended on Aug 2019. The Android Things Consolemay continue to receive bug fixes and performance improvements for a limitedtime going forward.

    The Raspberry Pi 3B continues to be a popular target for existing and newprojects. While we understand there are new capabilities and additionalbenefits in the newer models, there are currently no plans to add supportfor these new boards.

  5. Is there a path to commercialization for existing projects?

    The commercial hardware SoMs from NXP, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are onlyavailable to specific OEM partners building smart speakers and smartdisplays. Projects based on Raspberry Pi 3B and NXP i.MX7D are limited to100 devices for non-commercial use.1
